Civil Air Patrol – Moore County Composite Squadron

Civil Air Patrol Offers three focused areas: Emergency Services, Cadet Programs and Aerospace Education.

The Moore County Composite Squadron was re-chartered on 1 September 2019 and currently comprises membership of 63: 38 cadets and 25 senior members (adults). The squadron’s membership maintains 58% active meeting participation rate due to the dynamic involvement of cadets in school activities and of seniors in full-time jobs.

The cadets are fortunate to have an experienced cadet commander with excellent leadership skills and knowledge of CAP. The senior leadership bring a broad and deep knowledge from both military and civilian jobs and education. Almost all have held leadership positions professionally and have important technical skills.

The Moore County Composite Squadron has experienced the highest growth rate within NC Wing since its re-charter. The squadron has enjoyed an average of 2-3 guests per meeting.

The Squadron enjoys the full support of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #181 who has given a designated meeting space with storage area. This space has a full-fledged classroom environment with outdoor access for cadets to learn in, and participate in drill and ceremony procedures each week.

Additionally, the Moore County Airport supports the squadron through opportunities to explore a working general aviation airport, access to staff offering educational support and a location easy to reach.

The Gilliam-McConnel Airfield supports the squadron by utilizing the EAA Chapter 1220 building for the Senior Member planning meetings held twice monthly.

In the 3.5 years since inception, the squadron has produced many qualified, well-trained cadre of seniors and cadets to form response-ready emergency service crews. It is especially strong in ground team activities and is actively producing air crew members. The squadron has one fully-qualified CAP pilot, with multiple other pilots in the pipeline to becoming qualified to fly missions for the Civil Air Patrol.

Motto:
“Omnia Paratus” which means “Prepared for all things”. This motto encompasses everything we do in preparing for search and rescue on the ground, in the air, and training our future leaders of America. The phrase is also symbolic of how the Knollwood maneuver was used to prepare our paratroopers for anything.
