Moore County Airport Hangar Dedication Ceremony
Carthage, NC – The Moore County Airport hosted a Hangar Dedication Ceremony on Monday, July 17th, 2023, in the Airport’s Main Terminal. The dedication was held in honor of former Airport Authority Vice Chairman Barry S. Lerman, who passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 11, 2022. The ceremony was attended by Barry’s family, Airport staff, Authority members, Mayor Strickland of Pinehurst, Mayor Haney of Southern Pines, and Mayor Farrell of Aberdeen, in addition to fellow pilots and friends.
Barry was an accomplished aviator and was nationally known and respected in the Phenom jet, Eclipse jet, and Cirrus aircraft communities. He gave back to others through his love of flying, often transporting medical patients and wounded warriors or their families. Barry was vice-chairman of the Moore County Airport Authority and his contributions to the airport will be a longstanding tribute to him.
Barry’s plaque reads:
“Successful entrepreneur and businessman. Skilled pilot and enthusiastic golfer, terrific father, husband, neighbor, and friend. His leadership at this airport enabled the building of this hangar.”
As part of the Dedication Ceremony, Airport Director Ron Maness was also honored (and surprised!) with a hangar dedication, his plaque reads:
“Four times the manager of this airport. Ron grew up in Moore County and had his first flight at this airport. He flew with the USAF Thunderbirds, and was an instructor, a captain, and test pilot for USAir (now American Airlines). His service and commitment to this airport are second to none.
